Autosuggest: Suggestions for left / right arrow key behaviour

Reported by Jake Archibald | September 21st, 2009 @ 03:37 PM | in 1.7

Left cursor:

Moves caret left in input field

Right cursor:

Moves caret right in input field, unless caret is at the end of text query in the input field when a suggestion is highlighted then pressing 'right' populates the input field with the suggestion whilst the auto-suggest box remains open.

Currently the behavior for right/left arrow keys is that the carat movement is the same as it would be without the suggestions visible, and the suggestions become hidden.

It isn't specified if that behavior will change in the cases that aren't [pressing 'right' when suggestions are visible and carat is already at the end of the entry text]. I'm assuming that in those other cases the behavior will stay as it already is (waiting for confirmation).

    Claire says...

    Right.. The official response was:

"According to the document and the interaction we have designed. Moving left or right moves the caret in text field either left or right.

So it shouldn't be closing the box on any left or right press."

Sorry, guess that's more work for you.

I've stopped the box hiding, however I haven't made the box complete if right is pressed when at the end. That wouldn't make sense unless we're using autoComplete, and we already have that feature in autoComplete.
