Carousel: Enable partial item on the left / top

Loads of people have hacked the carousel so there's a partial item on the left & right, with the middle one being the 'main' item. I think we should have an option to make this easier, as it's quite popular.
The option could be a pixel amount to show of the previous / next item. That way I'd be able to make a carousel of size 1, but with 50px of extra visibility on the left & right.
